I wrote this for some friends who have a band called "The Mossquitos" who as fate would have it finds three of them from Great Britain back together.  I combined some of what they had gone through with some of my experiences in London and here then is the song.

Lyrics

      WALKING THE STREETS OF LONDON
Words and Music by John Cannon

Walking the streets of London, going way back in my mind
Thinking what I was thinking then, it was about to be my time
Oh, oh----Oh, oh
So many expectations for a lad of where I’m from
There was no way of knowing the life that was to come
Oh, oh----Oh, oh

Now here we are out on the stage
many miles and years away
And the twists of fate that brought us here
Has left me with a touch of grey

Now I float upon the music
Like a wave upon the sea
Like a bird upon the air, I fly

You know the road has many meanings,
be it stone or in your head
if you travel, light and clean
you can sleep your own bed.

Now we float upon the music
Like a wave upon the sea
Like a bird upon the air, we fly

Walking the streets of London, I should’ve had it made.
I was really good at playing Hearts but I ended up with Spades.
Ah, ah—ah, ah
Now I’m not proud of some things I’ve done
But I never lost my honor
We all do what we must,
to keep the family solid

Ah, ah—ah, ah
Ah, ah—ah, ah

There’s a rhythm, running through us
And it sings out in one voice
You can feel it if you listen
It’s the quiet inside the noise

Now we float upon the music
Like a wave upon the sea
Like a bird upon the air, we fly

When you’re young out in the world
And you need a place to start
Find the passion deep within you
then play it from the heart

Now we float upon the music
Like a wave upon the sea
Like a bird upon the air, we fly

So many things have changed since then
There’s a Ferris wheel on the Thames
Everybody’s changing their names
The Walrus is now called Sir James
You know what else I’ve been learnin’, the Mini is built by Germans
There’s MI5 and an MI6 and I don’t know how many James Bonds there’s been
but speaking of Ben, “Big” is still part of the scene
Like Westminster Abbey, Parliament and the Queen

Walking the streets of London
That’s where it all began
But the story doesn’t end here
It just begins again
