  1. The Ride

A bit of my life in a song.  Actually, it's about meeting my future wife at The Whiskey A Go Go in 1968, my mother's advice to a friend and our love of Big Sur and family.
Was fortunate to have my neighbor and friend John Helliwell from Supertramp play sax on it.
It is truly a classic Helliwell performance.

Lyrics

THE RIDE
Words and Music by John Cannon
I used to be the kind of guy who could pull the chicks
The boys and I would run at night looking for our kicks
Sometimes we'd hang around with fools, it was a game we played
We used to think we were so cool, I thought I had it made
Uh huh, huuuh

As a man about town I'd put on the moves
The odds were so darn good I felt I could never lose.
Then one night at the Whiskey, up on Sunset Strip
I saw you in yellow chiffon, you seemed awfully hip

And you took me for the ride
And you took me for the ride
And you took me for the ride of my life

Now we sip Frangelico, up the coast at Big Sur
As we sing beneath the moon
What was once two has become one

I remember when I was young, a story my mama told
She said "When you're man gets too old to look, he's too damn old.
So If you see me out I'm a friend, but I will not touch
I know that when you don't look for trouble, there's still too much

And I'm already on the ride
 I'm already on the ride
I'm already on the ride of my life.

Now we sit beneath the trees
watching the sky at sunset
as the stars dance through the leaves
One that was two has become three

Since you took me on a ride
Yes, you took me for the ride
Yes, you took me for the ride of my life
